5 things not to say to a pregnant woman (and what to say instead)

While shooting these photos the other day, a woman was walking her dog just as we crossed the street and happened to notice my very visible baby bump. While she was very kind for the most part, she did make it a point to say that I was very big for being a few months out from my due date. She tried (I think) to make it better by saying that her daughter-in-law was a bit taller than me so maybe being tall contributed to having a big bump (insert big eyed emoji here). Her daughter-in-law also happened to already be due any day...

Surprisingly enough, her comments didn't bother my self-image. I realize how blessed I am to be pregnant again, and I was prepared to endure and appreciate and MARVEL at the miracle that my body is creating. HOWEVER, I don't believe that proper etiquette should be thrown out the window simply because a woman is pregnant. You wouldn't remark on a stranger's belly fat or someone's eye bags would you?

5 Things NOT to say to a pregnant woman (and what to say instead)

1. "You look like you're ready to pop!" or "You look like you're further than 5 months!"

Wow you look amazing! I bet you can't wait to meet your little one!

2. "Are you sure there's only 1 in there?"

You look incredible! You're handling carrying human life like a BOSS!

3. "You look tired."

You're glowing! If there's anything I can help you with, please let me know!

4. "You're getting bigger!" or "You're huge!"

You're looking more and more fabulous! You must be getting so excited to be meeting your baby soon! 

5. "Are you hoping for a boy or a girl? Do you wish it was a boy or a girl?"

Your baby is very lucky to have a mama like you!
